A US college document checklist for an Indian student should identify what each institution requires, who must provide it, and how it must be submitted. Your school board and the stage of your Class 12 studies provide context, while the college's current instructions determine the requirements.

Separate your documents from school-submitted records
Some application items are prepared by the applicant. Others may need to come from a school official or recommender. Record the required sender and submission method for each item instead of assuming that uploading a scan yourself is sufficient.
EducationUSA identifies academic records, possible test results, recommendations, and essays as areas to check. Use that framework to organise research; the institution's international admissions instructions establish the exact list.
Use this working checklist
| Document or information | Required here? | Who provides it? | Official submission method | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Academic record for required school years | ||||
| Available examination results | ||||
| Predicted or interim results, if requested | ||||
| Final results when available, if required | ||||
| School report or equivalent, if required | ||||
| Recommendations | ||||
| Test evidence | ||||
| Essays or programme supplements |
The table is a planning worksheet, not a claim that every item is mandatory at every institution.
Keep board and grading context clear
Record whether your school follows CBSE, CISCE, a state board, or another curriculum, using the names and documents your school provides. Ask the college what context it needs to interpret your academic record.
Do not invent a GPA conversion or alter marks to fit an assumed US scale. Follow the application's instructions for reporting grades, and seek clarification when your board's format does not fit the form.

Try the Calculator →Check language and certification instructions
If a record is not in English, ask what translation and certification process the institution accepts. Keep the original and translated records clearly associated. The required sender, language, and certification may differ across colleges.
For results that are not yet available, record the college's stated interim and final-document process. Do not treat an expected future result as a completed document.
Protect personal records
Keep application credentials, identity documents, and school records in a secure location. A planning sheet shared with a friend or a public college shortlist does not need complete private documents or application identifiers.
Start with the application plan, then assign dates and owners using the deadline tracker. Use GradeToGrad's study-abroad page for college research and budget planning.
